friday meditation metaphors

I bookmarked this metaphor on meditation a while ago and wanted to share here because it really resonated with me.

I also enjoyed reading the now of crossfit. Crossfit is it’s own crazy type of meditation and I lovvvve it. I haven’t been this week which makes me feel like a huge slacker. I’m gonna go ahead and blame it on daylight savings – 5:30am and 4:30am feel very different to my body no matter what time I go to bed. Instead, I went for a run, went to hot yoga and am going to a women’s climbing class tonight. Next week I’m aiming to get my behind to the box at least twice.

On another note, here is another little round up of clean eats I’d like to try this coming week (I’m starting my meal planning early! – look at me go)

Twice baked potatoes – I’ll swap out regular potatoes for sweet ones!

Thai Red Beef Curry – I think I need to give in and just buy the book already

Thai Yellow Curry with Beef Brisket

Bacon Butternut Squash Soup

I think the grey Seattle skies are putting me in the mood for comfort food. Can it be summer now? sigh

creative30 week one

I’ve been doing an okay job of keeping up with my creative30 challenge. I think I’ve already missed a few days due to some stressful stuff going on with the day job as well as a quick trip to Portland last weekend. At least I’m making a lot more space for creativity than I had in the past so I’m counting it as a win. Here are a few things that I’ve been working on in the past week.

clean eating round up

After finishing my whole30 back in January I sort of fell off the bandwagon. I actually got really frustrated with clean eating and gave it a big “efff you” by indulging in all the things I had never even wanted pre-whole30. In the end, that translates to a big “efff you” to my body….great. In this way, I sort of feel like whole30 was not necessarily the best for me. I don’t mean that sincerely (there were a lot of good things about it) but, I do think it left me with a “well I can’t win” attitude. Going off of whole30 I was faced with the reality that there is just so much junky food out there and my body and mind are programmed to want it (no matter how many whole30s I do). Annoying!

Anyways, I’m feeling a little regretful for my bad attitude and choices in the past month and I’m making a commitment to get back to what I know is best for me…annoying as it is. My meal planning in particular has been a little lame so that was where I started this week because I know it’s a tool that I can rely on. I’m also rounding up a bunch of recipes that I had starred in my reader as inspiration.

Slow Cooker Chocolate and Chicken Mole

Brussels Sprouts & Hard Boiled Egg Chop Salad

Homemade Roasted Garlic Oil – to put on everything

Raw Chocolate Cheesecake

Tomato Zucchini Soup

I feel better already…I feel like maybe I can win after all.

a new focus: creativity

I’ve been meaning to share my March challenge here but got carried away with my weekend which included helping a friend move,  a football match, too much beer (whoops!) and wedding planning.

I’m dubbing my next challenge my “creative30”. My goal will be to do something that requires creative thinking every day for the next 30 26 days. I’ve always felt this pull inside of me towards art and inventive endeavors but my day job has led me in a very different direction which is part of why I’ve chosen this for my third challenge of 2013. I want to make time for the backlog of creative projects and ideas that have been piling up. Below are some of the types of projects that I hope to work on this month. I’ll try to post my projects here as I go. Some will be really tiny and quick and some will be much larger efforts but they all require a little imagination and creativity.

adobe

Play with some fun hand drawn arrows.

Fake a chalkboard effect.

Master a letterpress font effect.

Get fancy with a scallop brush.

Learn more about brushes.

Make myself a pretty landscape wallpaper.

pinterest

I should probably start now.

doodles

Yep, I’m totally counting this. I know I won’t have time every day for an involved project but I can at least take 10 minutes to sketch.

tee

A year or so ago I started making tee shirts and onesies for gifts and have always wanted to open up an Etsy store front. I’m hoping I’ll be able to take some time this month to put towards making that happen.

I plan to keep this quote in mind over the next month. Love it.
