gratitudes week three

As part of my twelve 30 day challenges, I’m challenging myself to practice gratitude for big and small things in my life during the month of July. To help keep myself honest, I’m capturing my daily gratitudes (or things I’m grateful for) here and posting every so often…

I’ve been slipping a bit on capturing my “gratitudes” but a quick look back through the photos on my phone reveal a few things that I captured recently and am definitely grateful for.

water

Water. I try to drink a lot of water during the day at work and it’s hard to remember to be grateful for something that is so accessible. I literally push a button for fresh, clean, water. ┬áDefinitely something to be thankful for.

Dining outside. I love eating (and drinking) outside when the weather allows it and luckily Mother nature has been cooperating more often than not. Whether it be at home or in a beer garden, there is something special about food enjoyed outdoors.

sounders

Sounders games. The energy at these games is unreal. I’m so glad that we’ve had the opportunity to be a part of this community for the past few years and I hope it’s something that we’ll continue doing for years to come.

That’s it for now, I’m going to try my best to keep this up but with 10 days until our wedding (!!) life is going to be a bit hectic.

gratitudes week two

sun

9. As a native northwestern-er I can get down with the grey but I also really crave sunshine. Let’s be honest, I’m probably deficient in vitamin D for a majority of the year. This year we’ve been having an unusually delightful summer and I’m thankful for a few moments of just laying in the grass soaking it up.

10. My step-dad Peter. He’s more like an older brother in some ways. Sounds odd, I know. He is there for me constantly and I know I can count on him for almost anything. I have a good relationship with my real Dad also so it’s not like he’s a replacement but instead, I get a bonus Dad which is kind of cool.

11. Super sweaty hot yoga. I tried a new studio (fusion yoga bothell) last week and loved it. Lately I feel like I’ve been hitting my stride in my practice even though I haven’t been going as often as I’d like. My yoga practice is something that I plan to come back to throughout my life and I know it will always be there waiting for me. It’s been the one constant for the past five years – amidst half marathon training, starting crossfit and life in general.

12. Summer evening walk. Mike and I grabbed dinner out at a brew pub on Friday night and afterwards got ice cream and went for a short walk. It was nice to just soak in a summer evening and talk about anything and everything. Plus the air smelled amazing – full of fragrant summer flowers and lake water. I will be making an effort to do this more often throughout the summer.

13. Radio talk shows. When I’m not bumping the 90s hip hop, I’ve been using Stitcher to tune in to podcasts during my commute and they make the drive so much easier. My favorites have been This American Life and Balanced Bites. They take my mind of the drive and I actually learn something at the same time! NEAT!

14. Summer berries. Need I say more?? They have been delicious! Even tastier when crafted into a crumble.

3. Our home – We’re still getting settled but I am grateful that we have a house to call home. And grass. I love our grass.

4. The Internet – I’m constantly inspired by the amazing things I find in the blog world. I can remember stumbling upon my very first blog (a cup of jo) while I was unemployed about 4 or 5 years ago and feeling like I had found some secret group of people I could relate to. My reading preferences have changed over the years but I love that no matter what I’m interested in, there is most likely a community out there of like-minded people who are able to connect through the magic that is the internet.

5. My lady friends – I just spent my bachelorette weekend with my favorite ladies which further solidified my love for them. They all balance me out and inspire me in different ways.

6. Michael – I’m thankful for him every day. He’s the most kind and calm person I know. He is my rock and the one person that I know I can always be myself with.

7. My brother and sister – ┬áMy brother and sister are two of my best friends who happen to also be family. I feel so so grateful that I have that kind of relationship with them. I love them to the moon and back x 1,000.

8. Cooking – Pulling something together or trying a new recipe is like therapy for me. I get “in the zone” and it feels so good to be able to create. Plus, having knowledge of exactly what I’m putting in my body is such a privilege.

I’ve been introduced to snapchat and while I don’t fully understand it – it’s kinda fun.

rafting

This weekend was an awesome adventure with my favorite people. My sister and friends surprised me with a half day of river rafting and a night out in Bellingham – complete with snacks and lots of dancing. I could get use to having all these ladies together more often. I’m still exhausted and a little sore from laughing.

Now the countdown to the wedding begins. Less than four weeks to go! Like woah.
