clean eating plan


I mentioned a while ago that I had sort of fallen off the wagon after my whole30 in January. Easter weekend was no exception and I went to bed Sunday night feeling terrible.  Clearly an adjustment is in order. I don’t plan on doing another whole30 or anything but these changes are how I plan to get back on the wagon – rather than dragging behind it. 🙂

1. Meal plan – During my whole30 I would sit down every weekend with my cookbooks, laptop, grocery list and meal planning notepad to map out the week. I plan to bring this back. If I know it’s going to be a busy week I’ll keep it pretty simple – breakfast totally makes for a decent dinner. On the other hand if I don’t have a lot going on I love trying out new recipes form one of my favorite cookbooks.

2. Grocery shop  – On good weeks this happens on Saturday or Sunday. On bad weeks it might not happen until Tuesday but being prepared with the groceries I need for the week’s meal plan cuts down on all those little trips to the store and makes the week run a lot more smoothly.

3. Cook protein – Having hard boiled eggs, baked chicken thighs or plain old ground beef is super handy when I need to throw together a quick lunch. Add some frozen veggies and it’s a meal.

4. Be flexible -Although I love having a perfectly planned menu for the week, often times life just happens (as it does) and I have to do some reshuffling. I’ll swap plans for the day or just swap out a complicated side dish for something quick and simple. If I try to stay too “on plan” it will likely end in tears and bad decisions.

5. Make decisions – Duh, right?! So important and sometimes, SO difficult! Make the good decision. Think about the consequences and really weigh whether or not something is worth it.

friday meditation metaphors

I bookmarked this metaphor on meditation a while ago and wanted to share here because it really resonated with me.

I also enjoyed reading the now of crossfit. Crossfit is it’s own crazy type of meditation and I lovvvve it. I haven’t been this week which makes me feel like a huge slacker. I’m gonna go ahead and blame it on daylight savings – 5:30am and 4:30am feel very different to my body no matter what time I go to bed. Instead, I went for a run, went to hot yoga and am going to a women’s climbing class tonight. Next week I’m aiming to get my behind to the box at least twice.

clean eating round up

After finishing my whole30 back in January I sort of fell off the bandwagon. I actually got really frustrated with clean eating and gave it a big “efff you” by indulging in all the things I had never even wanted pre-whole30. In the end, that translates to a big “efff you” to my body….great. In this way, I sort of feel like whole30 was not necessarily the best for me. I don’t mean that sincerely (there were a lot of good things about it) but, I do think it left me with a “well I can’t win” attitude. Going off of whole30 I was faced with the reality that there is just so much junky food out there and my body and mind are programmed to want it (no matter how many whole30s I do). Annoying!

Anyways, I’m feeling a little regretful for my bad attitude and choices in the past month and I’m making a commitment to get back to what I know is best for me…annoying as it is. My meal planning in particular has been a little lame so that was where I started this week because I know it’s a tool that I can rely on. I’m also rounding up a bunch of recipes that I had starred in my reader as inspiration.

whole30 reintro: legume


For the last day of my Whole30 reintro plan I failed and did not add legumes back into my diet.


Well, first of all, I’m glad I’ve done the reintro thing (or at least attempted) but, I’ve discovered that I do not love documenting what I eat. Nor do I enjoy being overly prescriptive about what I must eat. It gets old real fast for me. A paleo style diet is already as prescriptive as I want to get.

Over the past year+ legumes have pretty much become non-existent in my diet so why introduce something that I’m not really planning on eating?? Right?!

Last but not least, the day that I had planned to do legumes was the day that my family and I were celebrating my mom’s birthday so, instead of reschedule it (so that I could enjoy some brownies, of course), I chose to just eliminate it. Long story short, I ate no legumes and those are my excuses. 🙂
